MdW Accountants is owned and operated by two partners – John McMaster & Ivan de Wet. John welcomed Ivan into partnership in May 2021, with Ivan having worked in the Firm since 2014. The name MdW Accountants came as a blend of M for McMaster and dW for de Wet. John and Ivan both have a client centred approach to their business – recognising that our clients setting and achieving goals is a core part of our Firm’s growth.
Although MdW Accountants is a relatively new name on the Accounting landscape, our Firm’s history can be traced back on the Sunshine Coast to the early 1960’s. Originally established as DS McMaster Public Accountant in 1963 by John’s father Duncan McMaster, who had arrived on the Sunshine Coast with an extensive history of work for major accounting firms in Brisbane, the firm operated until 1983, when Duncan sold out of the then partnership, and carried on a reduced practice from home.
John had worked in several industries in Brisbane and Western Queensland, prior to returning to Nambour to commence studies in 1989. He began to work part time for his father in the business, along with other part time accounting jobs. Upon completion of his studies, John and his father relocated the business into the Nambour town centre in 1992. John purchased Eumundi Taxation Services in 1994, and in June of 1995, he and his father entered into the partnership, McMaster & Associates. The partnership however was short lived – John’s father ceased working the following February and passed away in March 1996.
John continued on with the practice and in July of 1998 John joined with Geoff Rook and together traded under the banner of Rook McMaster Pty Ltd whilst both maintaining their own practices. They went their own ways again in 2005 and McMaster & Associates moved offices firstly to North Buderim and then Maroochydore, where Ivan joined the firm in 2014. Ivan brings a diversity of knowledge to our practice with his HR knowledge and management experience.
McMaster & Associates celebrated 25 years of business in 2020, and continued to trade until April of 2021. We are proud to say we have clients who have been with us since the 1960s – these clients have known John his whole life.
In April of 2022, our firm incorporated Annette Koch Accountants, with both practices coming together under the MdW Accountants banner at our Forest Glen offices. Annette has over 30 years in the accounting industry and her knowledge and experience will add to the breadth of support available here at MdW Accountants.
